The Forgotten Man: Bradley Manning duurt 45 minuten.

Fight over truth underway in courtroom

After a grueling 3 years in prison awaiting trial, 3 time Nobel Peace Prize nominee Bradley Manning’s court martial has begun. Supporters held actions in solidarity with the heroic whistleblower. On June 1st the largest rally of supporters yet was held at Fort Meade, and throughout the week more than three dozen events were organized around the world.

On the first day of the trial the defense and prosecution faced off with opening statements that both asked “what would you do” if you were given access to evidence of the true nature of the war, civilian murders, illegal torture, unnecessary secrecy and thousands of documents revealing government corruption? What would you do if your reports to superiors were ignored, and if you learned that the American people had been lied to?

Hier kan men een petitie tekenen:

    Bradley Manning’s Nobel Peace Prize

Whistleblower Bradley Manning has been nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize, and he should receive it.

No individual has done more to push back against what Martin Luther King Jr. called “the madness of militarism” than Bradley Manning. And right now, remaining in prison and facing relentless prosecution by the U.S. government, no one is more in need of the Nobel Peace Prize.

Alfred Nobel’s will left funding for a prize to be awarded to “the person who shall have done the most or the best work for fraternity between nations, for the abolition or reduction of standing armies and for the holding and promotion of peace congresses.”

The intent of the prize was to fund this work. As a result of enormous legal expenses, Bradley Manning is in need of that funding.

Please sign this petition to the Norwegian Nobel Committee.

    Ingekomen e-mail:

The Nobel Committee — and the entire world — should know that you and nearly 100,000 other people have signed the petition for Bradley Manning to win the 2013 Nobel Peace Prize.

That’s why RootsAction is now getting ready to fly me to Oslo, Norway, so I can present our petition directly to the Nobel Committee.

But for this to happen, we need to pass the hat to you. Please click here to help deliver the petition you signed to the Norwegian Nobel Committee.

We hope to make this a big global deal and send a clear message to people everywhere that the whistleblowing courage of Bradley Manning deserves our support … and the world’s most important prize for peace.

RootsAction will continue our work in support of Bradley Manning — and Edward Snowden and other brave whistleblowers — propelled by our belief that democracy cannot exist without the informed consent of the governed.

If you click here and donate $5 to RootsAction, you’ll be sending me — with our huge petition in my arms — to the doorstep of the Norwegian Nobel Committee.

As a signer of our petition, you’re telling the Nobel Committee: “I urge you to award the Peace Prize to Bradley Manning.” That message may be anathema to the Obama White House, but it must be said loudly and clearly to the world.

Especially exciting is the fact that our petition isn’t only a list of names and home towns. It also includes many thousands of heartfelt and insightful comments from individual signers. I will ask the Nobel Committee to read all of those comments before making a decision on awarding this year’s Nobel Peace Prize.

To strengthen the impact of the Bradley Manning Nobel Peace Prize petition — so it can be presented in Oslo with enough fanfare to reach media the world over — please click here and donate what you can.

    With appreciation,
    Norman Solomon
