Bashar al-Assad interview on Dutch TV show Nieuwsuur (17-12-2015) duurt 22 minuten.

Syria: A First Major Win Due To The Cessation of Hostilities Agreement
By Moon Of Alabama

February 25, 2016 “Information Clearing House” – “Moon Of Alabama” –

The Russian/Syrian agreement to the cessation of hostilities in Syria is seen critical from a military point of view. It would have been better to use the current momentum and to proceed fighting instead of giving respite to the enemy.

But the agreement has one huge advantage. It excludes the Islamic State and Jabhat al-Nusra. Every “western” media report on the agreement and its likelihood to proceed now has to admit what has long been denied. That the unicorn U.S. supported “moderate rebels” are in deep alliance with al-Qaeda.

Sticking Point in Syria Truce: Washington’s Support for Al Qaeda

By Bill Van Auken

Testifying Tuesday before the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, Secretary of State John Kerry faced intensely hostile questioning as he defended a Syrian “cessation of hostilities” reached with Moscow that is supposed to go into effect this weekend.

Democratic Senator Barbara Boxer of California suggested that the agreement might be little more than a “rope-a-dope” deal, while the committee’s Republican chairman, Senator Bob Corker of Tennessee, warned that Russia would “continue to kill the folks that are our friends and allies.”

Kerry responded by stressing that there was a “significant discussion taking place now about a Plan B,” presumably entailing a major escalation of the US military intervention in Syria and a potential armed confrontation with Russia, should the truce deal fail to further Washington’s aims.

The Russian-American Agreement on Syria?

Yet Another Huge Victory For Russia

By The Saker

February 25, 2016 “Information Clearing House” – “Unz Review”

The recent agreement between the USA and Russia really solves nothing, it does not even end the war, and both sides are expressing a great deal of caution about its future implementation. And yet, this is a huge victory for Russia. While it is too early to say that “the Russian won in Syria”, I think that it is now fair to say that the Russian position on Syria has won. Here is why:

First: nobody is suggesting anymore that Assad will be ousted or Damascus taken. That, in turn, means that everybody has now recognized that Syrian Arab Republic, backed by Russia, has successfully repelled the aggression of the huge coalition the AngloZionists built to overthrow Assad.

The US president has once again renewed his call for Syrian President Bashar al-Assad to step down, saying there is no alternative to his removal. Barack Obama made the call during a speech Thursday focused on the Daesh terrorist group. He further said a planned cessation of hostilities agreed with Russia will go into effect tomorrow night. Obama added that attacks against Daesh and Nusra Front terrorists will continue during the period. The US president further urged Russia to halt its aerial campaign in Syria accusing Moscow of exacerbating the humanitarian situation. According to Obama the next few hours are critical in getting a tentative cessation of hostilities to hold.

Turkey is Screwed. And it’s all US Fault

By Arras

February 25, 2016 “Information Clearing House” – “The Saker” –

Amid rising tensions between Turkey and Russia over the situation in Syria, one important fact got lost. It’s not Russia that caused the current Turkish problems. It was the USA.

The most fundamental problem modern Turkey is facing is the Kurdish question. It’s a chronic problem, which threatens the integrity of Turkey and the Turkish elite perceives it as the largest security treat the country is facing. Turkish policies in Syria are determined by the Kurdish issue more than anything else. The change from the so called policy of zero problems with neighbors, which Erdogan and his government used to promote, came as a surprise to many and is directly related to the Kurdish issue and the events in Iraq after the disastrous US invasion.

Even before the agreed Syria ceasefire deal goes into effect Secretary Kerry is talking about the possible partition of Syria. The implications of which are crucially important – is Washington really interested in a ceasefire? Is regime change still front and center? And will the international community stand by as ISIL is given its own state?

The Debate – Syria Ceasefire (28.2.2016) duurt 23 minuten.

    Gepubliceerd op 27 feb. 2016

More than five years into the war in Syria, at least half a million people being killed and a country in tatters, a ceasefire has now been implemented. The ceasefire was brokered by Russia and the United States. Moscow has agreed to stop its bombing campaign against some of the western supported groups fighting against Damascus, but Russia and the Syrian military refuse to stop fighting the DAESH terrorist group as well as Al-Nusra Front, both considered by the UN as terrorist groups. The question of the day is will the ceasefire last? This as 97 opposition groups who so far agreed to the ceasefire.

Smelling EU Fear, Turkey Moves in for $6.6bn Kill

    By Finian Cunningham

    March 08, 2016 “Information Clearing House” – “RT” –

When the Ankara government carried out a brutal media crackdown at the weekend and then saw minimal Western protest as a result, President Erdogan knew he had the upper-hand – to leverage the refugee crisis.
It seems more than strange that, only three days before a high-profile summit was to take place between European Union leaders and Turkey on Europe’s refugee crisis, the Ankara authorities carried out an audacious assault on democratic rights.

The violent police seizure of Turkey’s biggest opposition newspaper, Zaman, and its immediate cowing into a tame pro-government publication represents the most brazen authoritarian move to date by the ruling AK party of President Recep Tayyip Erdogan.

Turkish opposition politicians denounced the full-frontal assault on independent media as tantamount to a coup d’état by Erdogan.

But the Western response to the draconian display of state power was more muted than ever. There was hardly any Western media coverage of the Zaman seizure.

Much closer to reality though is that NATO member Turkey is the party that has weaponized refugees. Erdogan’s state has played a prominent role in inciting the five-year war in Syria for regime change in Damascus. The war is in danger of dragging on even further given Turkey’s ongoing role in illegally supplying weapons and insurgents into Syria. That is the background to why nearly three million Syrian refugees have ended up in Turkey and for why Europe has incurred the destabilizing influx of migrants.

As Syrian President Bashar Assad said recently, Europe’s refugee crisis would be quickly solved if the covert war on his country was stopped. That is achievable if European powers clamped down on Turkey and Saudi Arabia sending weapons and mercenaries into Syria.

But instead, the EU overlords award the Erdogan regime with $6.6 billion while at the same time brutalizing human rights; and thereby ensuring that the whole problem is postponed for a much bigger eventuality.

MICHAEL BURLEIGH: The EU’s migrant €6bn deal with Turkey’s despot isn’t just shabby – it’s terrifying

Last Friday, an edict from the Turkish courts — with the blessing of the all-powerful President Recep Erdogan — saw police storm into Turkey’s biggest-selling daily paper and use tear gas as they rounded up the staff.

Meanwhile, opposition satellite television stations have been taken off air and 20 journalists jailed. It may sound like a banana republic as portrayed in a far-fetched Hollywood film, but this is the reality of life in a nation which is this week in the process of blackmailing the entire European Union.

In short, Erdogan and his prime minister are demanding $6 billion from the EU — no less than £500 million of which could come from Britain — to check the relentless flow of largely Muslim migrants making their way across the Aegean Sea to Greece and further west.

The implicit message is clear: if the money is not forthcoming, the floodgates will be opened, and the social and religious fabric of Europe could be changed for ever.

Not only that, a vital part of the deal is that from June onwards 77 million Turks will be given the right to travel all over the so-called Schengen open borders area of the EU without a visa.

The effrontery is breathtaking. Yet Germany’s Chancellor Merkel and her Brussels stooges appear to have caved in to a regime whose human rights abuses and contempt for democracy should make it a pariah state, not the recipient of billions in European aid.

Syria: Phantom “Rebels” Return from the Dead

Tony Cartalucci, Bangkok-based geopolitical researcher and writer

The French colonial green, white, and black banner of Syria adapted by the West’s proxy “Free Syrian Army” (FSA) had long been forgotten in the sea of black banners held aloft by Washington and Riyadh’s more extreme ploy to gain leverage upon and more direct access to the battlefield.

However, as Syrian forces backed by its regional allies and Russian airpower overwhelm these forces while building alliances with other factions, including the Kurds, the West’s entire regime change enterprise faces ignominious collapse.

It appears that – having exhausted all other options – the West has decided to change as many of those black banners back to the “rebel” green, white, and black as possible, before the conflict draws to a close, giving the West the most favorable position achievable ahead of “peace talks.”

In Syria, If You Can’t Find Moderates, Dress Up Some Extremists
The BBC’s latest production is as absurd as it is transparent and abhorrent.

    February 11, 2016 (Tony Cartalucci – LD) –

Upon reading the increasingly desperate headlines pumped out by the Western media as Western-backed terrorist forces begin to fold under an effective joint Syrian-Russian offensive to take the country back, readers will notice that though the term “moderate rebels” or “moderate opposition” is used often, the Western media is seemingly incapable of naming a single faction or leader among them.
